Radiotherapuetic Oncology as a medical specialty covers the following areas:

  • The study of the natural epidemiological aspects, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of all patients for whom treatment with radiation could be indicated, wether they are cancer patients or otherwise.
  • The study and application of radiophysical knowledge to research, radiometry, clinical dosimetry and the protection of staff exposed to radiation.
  • The study and application of radiobiological knowledge, in both the experimental field and the clinical field.
  • The study and application of physical agents used in the specific diagnosis techniques for radiotherapeutic oncology (localization, centering, and simulation, etc.)
  • The proposal, implementation and monitoring of treatments with radiation.
  • The knowledge and application of interstitial radiotherapy treatment, which can only be carrier out with adequate training.
  • The determination of simulations and the use of assessments of associated and alternative treatments, with a view to harmonizing a comprehensive strategy.
  • Continuing professional development in the field of complications relating to the disease or to iatrogenesis that require prompt detection and appropriate treatment.
  • The use of all biological, physical, and technical resources in research and teaching programs within the specialty defined above.
