Pathological Anatomy

Human Anatomical Pathology is the branch of medicine that deals with the study of the causes, development and consequences of disease by means of morphological techniques. Its ultimate purpose is the correct diagnosis of diseases based on biopsies, surgical specimens, smears and autopsies.

As far as its medical applications are concerned, it essentially deals with human diseases, although it is also applied in areas such as experimental pathology and comparative pathology. Anatomical Pathology is a medical specialty with a basic body of doctrine that makes it an independent academic discipline on the one hand and a functional unit in medical care on the other, and therefore its associated tasks are carried out in a central, diagnosis-oriented department. The fact that it is a basic discipline makes it especially important in the teaching of pre- and post-graduates, and also in clinical research.
