Once again, Madrid has become the focal point for updates in the field of Gynecology and Obstetrics with the celebration of the “XXII Jornadas Nacionales HM Gabinete Velázquez”. This event, taking place at the Novotel Madrid Center, has brought together over 660 in-person attendees and 460 participants via streaming, establishing itself as one of the most impactful conferences in the specialty in Spain. This year’s conference features more than 50 speakers and the participation of 135 exhibitors from the pharmaceutical and technology industries, reinforcing its prestige as a meeting point for science, innovation, and clinical practice.
Dr Juan Abarca Cidón, President of HM Hospitales, inaugurated this scientific update forum, highlighting the Group’s commitment to excellence in women’s health. “This conference is a benchmark in Gynecology and Obstetrics, allowing professionals to share the most innovative advances in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. It is a clear demonstration of HM Hospitales’ commitment to offering the latest updates and being at the forefront of all fields related to gynecological and obstetric health, and through this conference, we are undoubtedly achieving that.”
The event’s organization has designed a cutting-edge program with key themes, including the conservative management of the lower genital tract and cervical pathology, with an emphasis on new HPV screening strategies and progression markers.
Dr Luis Serrano Cogollor, a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics at HM Gabinete Velázquez and a member of the Scientific and Organizing Committee, highlighted the relevance of this new edition. “Each year, the conference not only consolidates its prestige but also anticipates the needs of the sector with a program that incorporates the latest scientific and technological advances. This year, the multidisciplinary approach is key, with sessions addressing everything from menopause to minimally invasive surgery, without forgetting gynecological oncology and the impact of HPV on women’s health.”
One of the central themes of the congress is the update on the prevention and treatment of cervical pathology, with a special focus on primary and secondary prevention of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). “We will analyze the latest figures on public screening in the Community of Madrid and compare its impact with follow-up in the private sector. This discussion panel promises to be one of the most dynamic of the congress. Finally, we will address long-standing gynecological problems with innovative solutions: laparoscopic surgery, pelvic-vulvar pain, fibroids, endometriosis, and the new approaches in Fertility 3.0 presented by Dr Ana Gaitero, Director of HM Fertility Center,” said Dr Serrano.
Menopause and women’s comprehensive health
Menopause will be another central theme of the congress, with a multidisciplinary approach that includes gynecologists, dermatologists, and endocrinologists. “This year, we have focused heavily on the multidisciplinary approach to menopause, which we consider a key aspect. In addition to gynecologists, we will have the participation of other specialists, such as dermatologists and endocrinologists, and several presentations will be structured as dialogues between professionals. We will review and update certain aspects of women’s health during this stage, including topics not typically addressed in our consultations, such as hair health, metabolic syndrome, and the role of probiotics during this phase. Additionally, we have included short presentations to provide updates on contraception and its relevant innovations, an aspect we had not included in recent editions,” explained Dr Silvia P. González, a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics at HM Gabinete Velázquez and a member of the Scientific and Organizing Committee.
In the field of oncology, advances in hyper-early diagnosis of breast cancer will be presented, including pioneering studies on detection through circulating DNA in breast milk and the use of bisphosphonates to improve survival in early breast cancer, which could lead to changes in current treatment protocols.
Surgical advances and reproductive health
Gynecological surgery will also be in the spotlight, with special attention to new laparoscopic, Hi-Fu, and VNotes techniques, which aim to reduce morbidity and improve patient recovery. Additionally, new approaches in Fertility 3.0 will be discussed, including oocyte donation and fertility preservation in gender dysphoria. “In response to the growing demand for inclusive care, the monitoring of transgender breast health will be analyzed, with a special emphasis on prevention and the role of testosterone in breast cancer. Furthermore, hormonal treatment options and support for transgender patients will be addressed,” highlighted Dr Dolores Ojeda, a member of the Scientific and Organizing Committee.
