The HM Santa Elena International Hospital is hosting the exhibition “Sailing towards the future” until September 2nd, embracing the successes achieved by the sailing boat ‘HM Hospitales Hydra’, sponsored by HM International. Last year, the boat, skippered by Óscar Chaves, won the Conde de Godó Trophy and La Ruta de la Sal; and this year it is competing in the 42nd edition of the Copa del Rey de Vela which began on July 27th.

The boat from the CN El Balís de Sant Andreu de Llavaneres is competing with the aim of transmitting the commitment to excellence and the values of effort and teamwork, as well as respect for the sea. It is a high-performance 14m long sailing boat designed by Marc Mills and built in 2003 to combine efficiency and space and whose line allows it to optimise its performance, both in light breeze and wind conditions.

The ‘HM Hospitales Hydra’, which also holds the title of Copa del Rey Champion in the 2009, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2021 editions, has in its crew the knowledge and experience of prominent Spanish Olympic medallists such as Kiko Sánchez from Alicante, gold medallist in the 470 class at the Barcelona-92 Olympic Games, and Fernando León from the Canary Islands, silver medallist in the Tornado class at Atlanta-96. The team is completed by José Ponce, world champion in the IMS 500, Sydney 40 and Class 40 categories.

Patients of the HM Santa Elena International Hospital in Torremolinos will be able to visit this exhibition, located in the hospital hall, and learn more details about this boat until September 2nd. In addition, they will be able to see the cups won by the brand new boat, as well as a scale model of it.
