Fundación de Investigación HM Hospitales and Madrid Health Hub establish Madrid Region’s first Digital Health Solutions Validation Centre

April 2, 2025

HM Hospitales and Madrid Health Hub have signed a collaboration agreement to promote innovation transfer to the healthcare sector. Through this agreement, the Group joins Madrid Health Hub, reinforcing both organisations’ commitment to digital transformation, research and developing innovative solutions to improve patient care and optimise clinical processes.

As part of this alliance, Fundación de Investigación HM Hospitales (FiHM) (HM Hospitales Research Foundation) and Madrid Health Hub will create the first Digital Health Solutions Validation Centre in the Madrid Region. This innovative space will be dedicated to clinical evaluation of digital health technologies, enabling startups, scale-ups and large corporations to validate their solutions with high quality standards at competitive costs.

The centre aims to ensure the feasibility, safety and efficacy of new healthcare technologies, facilitating technology transfer in the sector. Under the supervision of FiHM professionals and supported by Madrid Health Hub’s infrastructure, this space will provide entities with access to structured, reliable validation processes.

The agreement, signed by Dr Juan Abarca Cidón (President of HM Hospitales), Luis Badrinas (Vice President of Barcelona & Madrid Health Hub), and Dr Alberto Muñoz (President of FiHM), establishes a joint framework where HM Hospitales (as a healthcare leader) and Madrid Health Hub (as a health innovation ecosystem) will develop initiatives for implementing new technologies, validating disruptive solutions and creating synergies between businesses and healthcare professionals.

HM Hospitales: Strategic partner for clinical validation

Through this agreement, HM Hospitales will serve as the strategic validation centre for innovations developed by Madrid Health Hub-linked companies. This collaboration will accelerate integration of new technologies into the healthcare ecosystem, improving care quality and fostering a more efficient, connected health system. Simultaneously, Madrid Health Hub and Barcelona Health Hub strengthen their national hospital network, enhancing collaboration between healthcare centres, startups and tech companies.

Luis Badrinas, Vice President of Madrid Health Hub, emphasises: “This collaboration represents a significant advance in our mission to connect digital health ecosystem stakeholders and accelerate adoption of innovative solutions that positively impact healthcare.”

Dr Juan Abarca Cidón stated: “For HM Hospitales, contributing to a more efficient, technological and interconnected healthcare system—serving individuals, society and corporations—aligns perfectly with our purpose and corporate values. This step consolidates our position as a leading validator of health tech innovations within the healthcare system.”

The partnership will pursue multiple collaborative avenues, from identifying real sector needs to designing and validating technologies in clinical environments. Both entities will also work jointly to promote projects connecting startups and tech companies with hospital settings, fostering development of a more efficient, interconnected health system at local, national and international levels.

This initiative marks a key step in accelerating digital transformation in healthcare, promoting integration of new technologies into the ecosystem and enhancing care quality.
