• The presentation was attended by Mrs. Margarita del Cid, the mayor of Torremolinos, and the institutional president of HM Hospitales in Malaga, Jesús Burgos.
• The hospital invested 3 million euros to provide specialized medical assistance in most medical-surgical specialties to the international patients living or visiting the Costa del Sol.
The HM Santa Elena International Hospital presented its healthcare offerings for international patients at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), with the presence of Mrs. Margarita del Cid, the mayor of Torremolinos. During the presentation at the Torremolinos City Council stand, Jesús Burgos, the institutional president of HM Hospitales in the Southern Region of Spain, explained the extensive renovations carried out at the HM Santa Elena International Hospital, the only hospital in the area. Three million euros were invested to refurbish the consultation and Radiology areas, among other areas, to hire new healthcare professionals and to acquire state-of-the-art technology.
The Group has four hospitals in the province of Malaga: HM Malaga, HM El Pilar, HM Gálvez, and HM Santa Elena, the latter with a clear international focus. Located in Torremolinos, it has, among other facilities, 43 rooms, adult ICU, medical-surgical day hospital, comprehensive oncology center, 5 operating rooms, one dedicated to ambulatory surgery, a hemodynamics room, and a building with 35 consultation rooms.
“At this center, we are significantly improving our healthcare offerings to international patients,” explains Dr. Benavente, the Southern Region Medical Director of HM Hospitales, adding, “We are performing a significant number of interventions that require greater complexity, thanks to the hiring of some professionals and the use of high-tech techniques.”
The Costa del Sol closed 2023 as “the best tourist year” in its history. The Malaga destination received 14 million tourists, 9.4% more than in 2022 and one million more tourists than in 2019, according to recent data published by Turismo Costa del Sol and the Provincial Government of Malaga.
“The most popular specialties by foreign patients who come to our hospital are traumatology, cardiology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, among others, and every year we receive a significant number of patients who come to our emergency service during their holidays,” says Dr. Benavente.
