Students of the Higher Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging complete clinical practical training at HM Hospitales in Málaga

Students enrolled in the Higher Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging at the HM Hospitales Biosanitary Professions Training Centre in Málaga will complete their training through clinical placements in the Imaging Diagnostics Departments across HM Hospitales Group’s facilities in the province of Málaga.  

Over 20 placement students will gain hands-on experience with the department’s technology, including the new AI-powered MRI scanner at HM Málaga, alongside CT, ultrasound, conventional radiology, and mammography equipment.  

“We are dedicated to fostering our students’ education and professional integration. That’s why, at HM Hospitales Biosanitary Professions Training Centres, we ensure every student undertakes placements within HM Hospitales Group hospitals,” explains Javier García Isasi, Head of Vocational Training at HM Hospitales. He adds, “Direct exposure to the workplace they’ve trained for is essential—it allows them to apply their learning in a real-world setting.”  

The students were welcomed by: Dr Virginia Grando, Southern Regional Director of HM Hospitales; Dr José María Benavente, Medical Director of HM Málaga; Dr Josefa Calvo, Head of Imaging Diagnostics for HM Hospitales in the province; Susana Pascual, Director of Nursing for the Southern Region; and Cristóbal Barrionuevo, Radiology Supervisor at HM Málaga.The group toured HM Málaga Hospital and Hospital Internacional HM Santa Elena in Torremolinos—where their placements will take place—alongside HM Gálvez Hospital.  

“This experience lets us apply classroom knowledge in a real clinical environment. Training with state-of-the-art equipment and learning from seasoned professionals is an incredible opportunity for our careers,” says Mª del Carmen Moreno, a Higher Diploma student.  

Dr Josefa Calvo emphasises: “From day one, students are mentored by hospital professionals who guide their placements, oversee their work, and provide continuous support throughout the learning process.”

Beyond the Higher Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging and Nuclear Medicine, the Málaga centre offers programmes in: Oral Hygiene, Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, and Nursing Auxiliary Care, equipping future healthcare professionals with comprehensive, clinically oriented training.
