• This certification recognizes the work programs developed over the years in both centers consisting of coordinated and multidisciplinary actions designed to optimize the physical, psychological and social functioning of patients with heart disease.
• The work of these units improves the quality of life of patients, increases cardiovascular survival, reduces hospital readmissions and the probability of suffering recurrent myocardial infarctions.
The data does not lie and cardiovascular accidents continue to be the main cause of death in Spain. In fact, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) estimates that there are more than 120,000 deaths annually due to cardiovascular accidents and there are more than 5 million hospital stays related to cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Therefore, many patients need cardiac rehabilitation units after an accident of this type to recover their cardiovascular health.
The Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC) has granted the university hospitals HM Puerta de Sur and HM Montepríncipe, accreditation for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Units of both centers, which are under the umbrella of the HM CIEC Comprehensive Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, led by Dr. Leticia Fernández-Friera.
“This is great news that reinforces HM CIEC’s constant commitment to offering our patients the highest possible quality of care and that aligns perfectly with our DNA, since this accreditation recognizes the coordinated and multidisciplinary interventions designed to optimize the physical, psychological and social functioning of patients with heart disease,” says Dr. Fernández-Friera.
Cardiac rehabilitation programs have been carried out in HM Hospitales centers since the launch of Cardiology, but the recognition by the scientific society of the field supports years of work for the benefit of patients carried out by HM CIEC. In fact, thanks to the work of these units, the quality of life of patients improves, who achieve greater functional capacity, as well as a decrease in stress, anxiety and depression. On the other hand, at a prognostic level, cardiovascular survival is increased and hospital readmissions and the probability of suffering recurrent myocardial infarctions are reduced.
“Obtaining accreditation has been the result of a significant collective effort by each professional from the multidisciplinary units, led by Dr. Leire Moreno at HM Puerta del Sur and Dr. Beatriz Fuertes at HM Montepríncipe. It has involved a constant commitment to continuous improvement, investment in specialized training and the implementation of innovative practices,” highlights Dr. Francisco Javier Parra, coordinator of Clinical Cardiology at HM CIEC.
Guarantee for patients
With this accreditation, both HM Puerta del Sur and HM Montepríncipe see their already extensive care offering reinforced, but above all it is a plus guarantee for patients, since accreditation is a recognition of compliance with rigorous standards of quality and provision of care. services. “For patients, this means ensuring they receive high-quality care and cardiac rehabilitation programs that follow recognized best practices. The certification reinforces confidence in the safety and effectiveness of the services offered, thus promoting better results in cardiovascular health,” concludes Dr. Parra.
